Caldera

A self published fantasy novel.

How to self publish post 1

Ok, I finally self published my first book Caldera:The Book of Ixkin for free. Yes free! I am a graphic designer by trade but you can do it to. I published through Amazon the book is available on both the Kindle and Paperback. I also published with LULU to get it in the Ibookstore. I did not pay for any of the services they offer and did just as good a job as they would have. You just need to know a few things about DIY.

1. You have to write the damn thing first. For me it took almost 10 years part time. I also submitted to countless agents and publishers with very little success. What I mean by that is only three out of a hundreds answered my query letter with more than a pre-written letter.

2. Pay someone to edit it. It makes a huge difference you need another set of eyes on it. If you are lucky and have a road scholar in your family good for you, but for the rest of us you will have to pay someone. I found a person on Craigslist and used her twice. I paid a total of $600.00 and a website trade.

3. Pick your publisher, I recommend the ones I choose, Amazon and LuLu.

4. Once all your writing is finished you need to prep your files. Here is a link to Create Space(Amazon) word templates for your manuscript Link. Copy your word doc into this file and go back over making sure word has not made anything crazy, IT WILL DO THIS.

5. Ok, now you have a finished book and a correctly formatted one.

6. Create your account with Create Space (Amazon Self Publishing) and just start following the prompts. For the Paper back you will need to convert your book into a PDF. Word has a convert to PDF function just follow their requirements. You will need to fill out all the info on the book, Title Description etc also how much you will want to sell it for. I suggest not being greedy. You, as of now are a no one, so sell it cheap and get your name out there. That is what I did, book

7. After you do all this they will send you a proof. If it is good approve it and you are good to go.
